Ali Bhagat receives SSHRC Insight Development grant

Re:Structure Lab Co-Investigator Ali Bhagat has received a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Insight Development Grant. These grants enable the development of new research questions, and experimentation with new methods, theoretical approaches, and ideas.

Bhagat’s research project “Mapping Queer African Refugee Lifepaths: Towards Refugee-Informed Migration Policy in Canada and South Africa” examines the life paths of queer African refugees from their home countries to resettlement, focusing on South Africa and Canada. This research seeks to understand the motivations driving individuals to seek asylum in these countries and assess the roles of state actors, non-governmental organizations, international organizations, and informal sectors in refugee relocation and vulnerability to exploitation.

Re:Structure Lab celebrates this award as part of Bhagat’s exceptional work uncovering the hidden stories of racialized sexual and gender minorities experiencing forced migration.
