Article: Regulatory design and interactions in worker-driven social responsibility initiatives
Re:Structure Lab Co-Principal Investigator Genevieve LeBaron and McMaster University Labour Studies Professor Judy Fudge have published an article in International Labour Review titled “Regulatory design and interactions in worker-driven social responsibility initiatives: The Dindigul Agreement.”
This article explores the rise of worker-driven social responsibility (WSR) initiatives to combat labour and human rights abuses in global supply chains. LeBaron and Fudge focus on the Dindigul Agreement, a “pioneering WSR agreement” that was initiated by an independent, majority Dalit trade union that is run by women in Dindigul, India. Using key informant interviews and document analysis, this article details the establishment of the enforceable brand agreement, its distinctiveness in relation to other WSR agreements, and how it interacts with other supply chain governance tools.
